Had a meeting with our Solicitor today, who though we were nuts when we told him how much we have spent on electricity in the last 10 years. He agreed that clearly there was a problem, but the onus is on us to prove what the fault is. He said that Scottish Power are responsible for the wiring up to the meter, but not beyond. We already knew this as we were told this many years ago by Scottish Power themselves. He said that in the eyes of the law, Scottish Power would be seen as having done everything possible to find the solution to the problem, despite the fact that they had pretty much done nothing. He said that unfortunately under the circumstances he could do nothing, but if we found any further evidence he would certainly help us.
It would seem that even having our own electrician look at our wiring internally has little effect on the case. Our solicitor went on to suggest that perhaps a neighbour was tapped into our meter, which is something we ourselves once questioned. Again without substantiating evidence we get nowhere. The end result is he suggest that even though we have already paid over the odds, we get Scottish Power to set up a payment plan, and pay until such times as we have more evidence. I am still not inclined to pay any more. We have already paid £8964.58 and are still in debt by £2500.00. When you work out the actual amount we should have paid (based on figures provided by Scottish Power themselves) - £4803.74 - a difference of nearly £7000.00, then you can see how galling the situation is. I would like to go through to Scottish Powers head office to crack a few heads, and being a 6' 4" 20 stone Martial Artist this would be easy. However my wife reminds me that I'd end up in jail and no better off.
